Still unsure or want to know more? Here are some simple SEO lessons you can learn from SEO company experts...
Keywords
Using keywords throughout your website is a vital part of any marketing strategy, and what’s most important is what words you use, says Adobe, given your target market, is most likely to use search terms that have a close relationship with your products and services, rather than other search terms used by general consumers.
What’s clear, according to Adobe, is that the easiest and most effective way to find keywords is through keyword research tools such as Google Ads Keyword Planner and SEMrush Keyword Magic. Tools like these allow anyone to develop a list of keywords with significant search quantities and little competition.
However, it’s equally important to remember that a keyword shouldn’t be disregarded on the basis of search quantity alone, according to Adobe. Whilst Long-tail keywords (specific phrases containing at least three words) may not produce the highest search volumes, if you rank highly when these specific phrases are used, there’s a much greater opportunity to see a positive effect on your bottom line.
High-Quality Content
Whether writing a blog article, landing page or an ‘About Us’ page, the content of any webpage should inform, educate and inspire the reader, and the reader should be able to access it quickly and easily, hence search engines like google prioritise the quality of content.
Google’s Search Quality Evaluator Guidelines (section 5.1) offer the following definitions of high-quality content:
- Informational content should be original, accurate, comprehensive, clearly communicated and professionally presented.
- Artistic content (videos, images, photography, writing) should be original and unique content that has been created by highly skilled artists and content creators.
- News content should contain original, in-depth content that is well referenced and meets journalistic standards.
So how do you get Google to prioritise your content? According to Adobe, using title pages, headings and subheadings that incorporate keywords, will ensure that your web page is user friendly and form part of an SEO strategy that increases views and click-through rates.
Adobe also suggests not using too many keywords, also known as ‘keyword stuffing’, as google penalises websites for doing so. Why? Keyword stuffing can result in a negative user experience and prevents web pages from ranking high solely based on volume.
Link Building
Link building is the process of promoting your brand via hyperlinks on other high-quality websites, that link back to your own website (otherwise known as backlinks or inbound links), and google’s algorithm ensures that when link building is utilised correctly, your website becomes trusted and your brand authority rises.
In fact, the more links you have from relevant and high-quality websites, Page One Power says, the better your website will perform in relevant searches.
Are you wondering how to get started? As Adobe says, many entrepreneurs and freelancers are gathering backlinks via guest posts on external websites and simple email outreaches. There’s also no harm in contacting bloggers and website owners to ask if they can add backlinks to previously published content, Adobe states.
And let’s not forget that outbound links are just as important as inbound links! Outbound links are links on your website that lead to someone else’s website, and Adobe suggests that they can make your brand more relevant for certain keywords, by letting google know which pages have a close relationship with your content.
Lastly, placing internal links throughout your website to increase the visibility of other pages and suggests that doing so will alert search engines like google to the structure of your website and the importance of certain pages.
Social Media
Whilst SEO traditionally focuses on traffic to your website, it can be said that social media still has a significant impact, with search engines like Yahoo and Bing looking for social signals for ranking purposes. Social signals are actions that define user engagement in social settings and can include: likes, dislikes, shares, pins, votes and views, says MOZ Software.
So as Adobe suggests, the better your social media presence and the volume of social signals you emit, and the more SEO strategies you use within your social media pages, the higher your SERP (search engine results page) rankings will be.
